The Life Of Dr. Abe Oliver

 

Dr. A.C. Oliver received part of his education in the Douglassville academy been going to Tulane and New Orleans Louisiana for his medical degree.  After becoming aor Abe Dr. in listed in the Confederate army May 27th 1861 at Linden Texas as a private in Co. D, first Regiment with the Hood’s Texas brigade.  Dr. Oliver was wounded at White Oak swamp June 27, 1862 he was detailed as assistant surgeon and was promoted to lieutenant November 8th 1862.  He signed muster roll of October 31, 186363 as Commander of Company D.  He surrendered April 9, 1865 at Appomatox courthouse.  Battles he engaged in work Gains Mill, Second Manassas, Antietam, Gettysburg, Chickamuauga, and the Wilderness.  Dr. Oliver returned to his home in Douglassville and 1865 to devote his life to this service of his community as a physician and to his state of Texas as legislator.

 

Dr. Oliver when married Miss Francis Berkeley Ringgold and 1866.  To this marriage six children were born.  Francis died June 4, 1890, he later married mess Mary Elizabeth Brooks and 1892.  To this marriage won Son was born.  Dr. Oliver served in the Texas Legislature as a representative and senator from the Second District, Cass County.  He served on various committees and from 1915 to 1917 was superintendent of the Confederate home in Austin TX.  He died in 1929 at age of 90
